Russell Engler—Lexington Symphony cello player
How cool is it that a little town like Lexington has a Symphony Orchestra? I wanted to illustrate the Symphony in some sort of portrait, and the Symphony people steered me toward Russell. Russell is a professor at New England Law but I sense that his passion is rooted deeply in his cello playing. I fussed with the lighting and nit-picked this photo to death over little tiny details. I’m pretty confident Russell and his wife Tracy Miller were probably more relieved to see me go than a Kirby vacuum salesman. But in the end we produced an elegant photo that portrays a sense of chamber music majesty and a glimpse into the soul of the people who make this music.
